Sharing an update on Landcarer is such a great way to kick-start a conversation, asking for feedback or sharing knowledge with your peers. It’s the foundation of building community online, and is really easy to do.
When you log into Landcarer you will see a box near the top of the page that says ‘Make Post’ on the top of it.
Most conversations and connections on Landcarer start in this box. You can choose to:
- Share a comment or piece of information that you think people will find interesting
- Post a photo or video from some work you’ve done, or a project you’ve seen
- Paste a link to an article, resource or video that’s relevant and interesting to the Landcarer community.
In this how-to guide we will walk you through how to create different types of posts and interact with them on Landcarer.
Interacting with a post
Once you’ve shared any type of post, people can ‘react’ to your post using the emoji buttons available, or they can comment and ask questions in the box under your post.
You can also interact with other peoples’ posts in the same way.
If you see a post you’d like to interact with, you can hover over the thumbs up icon on the bottom left of the post and it will display a number of emoji icons that you can select to say you like, love, are surprised by, or dislike what’s in the post.
You can also type into the comment box underneath the post. The icons on the right of this bow allow you to add a photo to your comment or question by clicking on the camera icon, or an emoji by. Once you’ve finished your comment or question you can click the green button with the paper airplane icon in it to submit it.
If you think a post should be reported to the Landcarer admin team, you can click on the three dots on the top right of the post to reveal a menu. In this menu you can report the post, hide the post or hide all posts from that specific user.
Sharing different types of posts
If you want to make a text-based post you simply need to type into the box, select your privacy setting and click the green ‘Share’ button.
Sharing a photo
If you want to share a photo then click on ‘Photo’ in the ‘Make Post’ box to open the photo upload window.
A box will pop up asking you to drag and drop your photo into the green area. Once you have done this, it will copy into the post until you can see a small preview of it. If your file is too large, an orange box with an exclamation box in it will appear. You can add multiple photos if you’d like to.
Once your photo has uploaded, you can type in your caption in the box underneath, and select your privacy setting. You then click the green ‘Share’ button.
If you’ve made a mistake or need to change your post, click on the three dots on the top right of the post, and select ‘Edit Feed’ to make changes, or ‘Delete Feed’ to delete your post.
Posting a video
Posting a video is similar to posting a photo. You simply click on the video icon on the ‘Make Post’ box, and a green box will appear for you to drag and drop your video file into. Please note that the max size of video you can post is 48GB, and any large video could take a long time to upload depending on your internet speed.
You can also click the Browse button to look for the file on your computer.
Once you’ve added your video to the green box you’ll see the progress of the upload in a bar that appears.
You should then get a message to say that your video is being processed. Once you see this you can add a title for your video and any comment you have to go with it.
When you’re ready to share, select the privacy level you’d like, and click the green ‘Share’ button.
Sharing a link
If you read something interesting online and want to share it on Landcarer you can.
Simply copy the link to the article you want to share and post that link in the ‘Make Post’ box.
If the article you’re linking to includes a photo, Landcarer will automatically generate a preview of the article with the opening lines, title and photo.
Once you see the preview you can delete the link that you’ve pasted it, and replace it with whatever commentary you want to include about what you’re sharing. This won’t delete the article – just the URL code – from your post.
When you’re ready to post, select the privacy level you’re happy with, and click the green Share button. You’ll then see the post you’ve just shared, and can edit it if you need to by clicking on the three dots on the top right.
Sharing your content on other platforms
Whenever you post a piece of content on Landcarer you’ll get a pop-up box asking if you’d like to share it on other platforms. If you have connected your other social media profiles with your Landcarer profile, you can select which ones you’d like to post on, add a comment, and click the green ‘Publish’ button.
