How to Guide

message and chat

By using Landcarer’s very own in-built messaging feature you can have one-on-one private chats with people you’re connected with on Landcarer. Maybe you want to find out more about someone’s project or group? Or you might have some knowledge, tips or resources to share. Whatever it is, the messaging feature can help.

The messaging feature is a great way of kick-starting a conversation with someone, and all messages are secure and private, so they can only be viewed by whoever is sending and receiving them.

To send a message via Landcarer you need to be logged in. You can then click on the message icon to the left of your profile photo or initials on the top right of the page to open your messages window.

To compose a new message you’ll need to click on the small green plus sign on the top right of the Messages window to pen a new message.

Once your message window is open you can type the first couple of letters of the person or group you’d like to message in the ‘to’ bar at the top of the window. You need to be connected to someone to be able to send them a message, so if you’re not already connected to them, you’ll need to send a connection request.

Once you’ve found the person you’d like to message, select their name and start typing the message in the box that says ‘send your reply’. You can send a message to multiple people by selecting multiple names.

If you’d like to add one or more photos to your message you can have a couple of options.

You can click on the photo icon with the plus sign at the bottom left of your message to browse your computer for the photo you’d like to send. You can also click on the attachments button on the bottom right and that will open a section where you can drag and drop files into your message.

You can add multiple photos, and easily see which ones have been added above your message text once they’ve been uploaded. You can also delete an attachment by clicking on the trash can icon to the right of the photo.

If you would like any of your photos to be included in the body of the message you can click on the icon to the left of the trash can, where you see the text ‘use inline’ when you hover over it. If you click on this you will see the code from the photo added to the message.

Once you’re happy with your message, click on the green Send button. You can then go back into your messages to view your sent message.

When you receive a message you’ll see a notification when you log into Landcarer on the message icon. Once you hover over this you can see a preview of your new message, and click on it to read it.

You may also receive an email to the address you used to register with Landcarer to let you know you have a new message.

You can edit which notifications you receive emails for by going into Privacy Settings in the dropdown menu under your profile photo or initials on the top right of the page.

Click on the Email Notifications tab in the Privacy Settings area and you can click on the green icons to the right of the notifications to turn them on or off. Click the green Save Changes button to finalise your selection.
